Korean Investment Visa (IISPB)

PLO assists foreign investors and their families with their residency pathway in Korea through the Korean investment visa (IISPB).

A Korean Investment Visa can provide foreign investors and their families with a structured path to residence and permanent residency in South Korea. Under the Immigrant Investor Scheme for Public Business (IISPB), qualifying investors may obtain Resident (F-2) or Permanent Resident (F-5) status by making and maintaining the required investment.

Pureum Law Office has assisted foreign investors with IISPB matters since 2019. We provide practical legal support throughout the process, from preliminary eligibility review to immigration filing and residence registration.

Korean Investment Visa Requirements

The IISPB is administered by the Korean Ministry of Justice. Under the general investment route, a foreign national who invests at least KRW 1.5 billion may qualify for Resident (F-2) status. The investor’s spouse and unmarried children may also qualify.

After maintaining the qualifying investment for at least five years, the investor may become eligible for Permanent Resident (F-5) status.

A high-amount investment route is also available. An investment of at least KRW 3 billion may qualify the investor and eligible family members for F-5 permanent residence from the outset, subject to maintaining the investment for at least five years.

For current government requirements, investors should review the official Korea Immigration Service.

Korean Investment Visa Investment Options

The IISPB generally offers two investment structures.

The principal-guaranteed, interest-free option places qualifying funds into a public fund operated by the Korea Development Bank under the government program. The principal is returned after the required investment period in accordance with applicable rules.

The risk-based option involves investment in designated regional development projects. Unlike the principal-guaranteed structure, these investments may generate either profits or losses.

Because a substantial amount of capital is involved, investors should review both immigration eligibility and the proposed investment structure before transferring funds.

4 Steps in the Korean Investment Visa Process

1. Preliminary Eligibility Review

We first review the applicant’s immigration history and relevant documentation. Potential concerns involving criminal history, tax delinquency, immigration violations, or source-of-funds documentation should be identified before the investment is made.

2. Investment Account and Remittance

We assist with the procedures for the designated investment account and coordinate the overseas transfer of funds. Proper banking and remittance records are important because they form part of the supporting evidence for the immigration application.

3. F-2 or F-5 Application

After the qualifying investment is completed, our team prepares the appropriate F-2 or F-5 application and supporting documents. We also assist with supplementary document requests that may arise during immigration review.

4. Residence Card and Ongoing Support

Following approval, we assist with residence registration and residence card procedures for the investor and eligible family members. We can also advise on maintaining immigration status and preparing for eventual F-5 permanent residency.
