Latest News on Exceptional Nationality Renunciation

It has been more than 2 months since the decree of Exceptional Nationality Renunciation was newly legislated on October 1^st, 2022.

However, the National Assembly Subcommittee is yet to enact the necessary Enforcement Degree or Enforcement Regulations that support Article 14 Clause 2 of the Nationality Act that stipulates Exceptional Nationality Renunciation. So even to this day, the countless Overseas Koreans who had rejoiced upon the establishment of the Exceptional Nationality Renunciation continue to be regretfully anxious and impatient of their inability to apply for the Exceptional Nationality Renunciation, as the definite and practical rules of application procedure and method have not been specified.

 

Pureum Law Office has taken on Exceptional Nationality Renunciation cases from numerous clients, but we, too, only have collected the necessary documents from the clients and is unable to proceed with the subsequent process.

 

According to the information recently obtained via the internal news network of the National Assembly, we expect the following:

1. The specific process and means of the Exceptional Nationality Renunciation decree are to be legislated before Christmas of 2022.
2. The first draft of said specific regulations has been approved by the meeting of Vice Ministers on 8th Debember 2022; there is a high chance it is to go through the State Council between December 12, 2022 ~ December 16, 2022, and then the final contents will be decided.

As soon as detailed procedures and methods are decided, PLO will promptly notify existing clients of the contents, and secure additional necessary documents. Then, we will post the information on our news page.
