Not every international divorce ends through settlement. When an agreement is no longer possible, taking the case to judgment may be the best way to protect a client’s interests.
In this case, we represented an American husband in a contested divorce and property division dispute before the Korean court. The court granted the divorce, dismissed the opposing party’s alimony claim, and awarded our client a favorable property division, requiring the transfer of a one-half ownership interest in the jointly owned property together with a payment of KRW 80 million to complete the division. The judgment provided a clear and final resolution, allowing our client to move forward without further uncertainty.
